Some Decades Felt More Alive

The modern world sometimes pushes us to focus only on the present and not look back at the past. But what happens when the past feels more beautiful than the present?

Maria and I were in a small shop buying a little gift when we started talking with the shop owner about old times in our city. Without even thinking much about it, I asked him:

“What decade do you think felt the most carefree, colorful, and full of life? The 80s or the 90s?”

The 50s and 60s,” he answered immediately - a response we honestly did not expect.

Then he continued:

If you watch films, listen to music, or see the atmosphere of those years, you can feel a sense of freedom, hope, innocence, and expectation for something better. People were coming out of war and looked toward the future with optimism. Even with financial struggles, they still lived with simplicity, connection, and hope. To me, that was the most alive era.

And honestly… he wasn’t wrong.

Of course, moments later we all agreed that the 90s were also incredibly colorful and full of joy and entertainment. Maria and I grew up with the 90s and still love that era deeply. But something inside us awakened while talking about those older decades - a kind of romantic nostalgia. Maria already carries a deep love for old Greek cinema and stories from those years.

And because we would love to have you with us on this little mental journey to that almost fairytale-like era, we wanted to ask you something:

If you had the chance to briefly return to another decade and feel its atmosphere again… which era would you choose?
