A Day in the Village (and an Unexpected Surprise)

Greek village landscape with trees, mountains and a peaceful garden

Today began with a spontaneous decision. And I think those are often the best ones - the decisions that require no planning at all, only an idea.

As soon as we woke up, I looked outside. The sun was shining, the weather was warm, and a cool breeze was drifting through the air. I turned to Maria and our little one and asked:

"Shall we go to the village today?"

My parents live there, so Maria was immediately on board, and our little one started saying something that sounded remarkably close to the word village.

Of course, every beautiful decision can come with a small complication.

Those of you who have children will know that every family outing comes with a surprising amount of luggage. Toys, snacks, spare clothes, water bottles, wipes - you name it. And sometimes, while remembering all the important things, you forget the most important thing of all:

!!The house keys!!

Yes, we managed to lock ourselves out of the house. Fortunately, my mother had a spare set of keys in the village. So after we arrived, Maria and my father drove back to get them. Thankfully, the distance is short - only about fifteen minutes by car.

Meanwhile, my mother had prepared lunch for us. We enjoyed pizza, pastries, and juice together while catching up.

Our little one, as always, was full of energy. Every time he gets into a car, he wants to sit in the driver's seat, pretend he's driving, and make sure music is playing.

He explores e v e r y t h i n g.

Nature seems to give him even more things to discover, and I like to think those are valuable experiences for a growing mind.

As you'll see from the photos, nature is at its most vibrant right now. The green colours are incredibly vivid, and the flowers create little pockets of beauty everywhere you look.

While we play games with our little one, we also find ourselves enjoying the garden and the space around us.

It feels as though the trees, leaves, and flowers are quietly protecting you. As though they warm your heart. And then there is the silence. That special village silence that gently disconnects you from the noise and movement of the city.

We'll continue the day with lunch, followed later by the traditional Greek coffee, conversations around the table, and the cheerful little voices of our son filling the house.

Is the extra effort worth it?

Looking around at everything you see here, I think it is. After all, physical tiredness usually fades with rest. Mental exhaustion is often the kind that weighs people down the most.

How will you spend your weekend?
